Canavan wins 10th CI title

The North Social Club witnessed a match of superb quality as Jersey’s Aaron Canavan secured a tenth CI title by beating Adam Shorto 5-4…on the final black.

In a match that had everything, Canavan also won the opener on the black, but then went 2-1 down to a break of 59 by Shorto.

Three frames on the bounce yielded breaks of 34, 79 clearance, 61, 55 and a 63 for Canavan to move to the brink of the title with a seveth frame 64, but a stunning 34 clearance kept Shorto in the hunt.

A 65 break forced a decider that was heading Shorto’s way with just a red and black required, but a long distance pot wobbled and Canavan stepped in with his own masterful 44 clearance that culminated in a tricky cut on the final black.
